Discussion:
Business cards
(too old to reply)

Having finally settled down and stopped changing my email address,
phone number, snail mail address etc etc, I want to get some good
quality business cards made. The ones I can do on my printer have been
OK but are not waterproof and generally the printing is not well
centred on the cards

So I looked in the Yellow Pages and found that there are 19 printers
in Bury St Edmunds, far too many to trawl round. I have done the
design myself but I would want them to do the layout using my kettle
icon from a disk which I would provide

Any recommendations?

Depending on how rich you are and what you want etc. you could checkout
these http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/vp/ns/bcfree.aspx? i have been very
impressed how good their cards are for "free"

I've looked at online suppliers but I think this is something I want
to eyeball directly so I can look at the quality of the printer and
and the quality of their work

I've used Abel labels in the past (mail order) and I didn't have a logo
so I'm not sure how much with a logo but I was very very impressed with
the service and price.

Try any branch of Prontaprint or Kall-Kwik. The quality is good, and
if it isn't, you have a Head Office to complain to. They are very
tough on any franchisees who don't produce good quality work.

On the other hand, you might pay a little more than at a long-
established family printers or someone working out of his garage. But
the first is difficult to find, and the quality variable, and going to
the second is just asking for trouble.

Some branches of Staples also offer a printing service.

"Fiends" is probably right. Those Adanas were indeed "fiendish"
machines, sold out of the pages of "Exchange and Mart" to people who
thought they were real printing machines, when they were just toys.

Ours was quite a large one and did a professional job - the 'R' of 'ARK'
was a professional printer, and most of our runs were done with made-up
blocks.

We did one lot of encapsulated sticky-on-the-windscreen-and-peel-off
cards for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Supplied with a rectangle of Velbex and a Chinagraph pencil, the
Physioterrorist could write the address she/he was attending for the
assistance of Triffid Wardens etc.

Barker's in Attleborough. In the parade of shops facing you as you
approach the double bend before the level(ish) crossing.

I used to work for WW Hawes in Elmswell. I don't know how much they
charge these days but the quality was always good.

Thanks I've chased this one up so far with no success. I failed to
find them though I had an X marks the spot map from a helpful woman in
the library - seems like its run from a private house. So I phoned
them up and I'm not confident that the answerphone message was for a
business - it was one of those generic BT messages. I will try again.

They are in Cooks Road Elsmwell. The works are set back from the road
slightly and are in between two private houses (both of which are owned
by the Hawes family) so it is easy to miss.

Its been about eight years since I worked there but they are listed in
the latest yellow pages so I assume they are still going.

Yes if you like but I do sometimes pass them around to folks who wish
to pretend they are somebody else for a laugh. I have stacks of them
from all over the world. Same with headed note paper. Every firm I
have run I always keep a stock of their headed note paper for writing
out references for folks in need of that sort of thing;-)

The man from WW Hawes phoned me back and said that they are not very
suitable cos they specialise in full colour printing these days and
would be very expensive for my needs. He recommended Kall Quik in Bury
so I will try them (more convenient than Attleboro) next

Thanks all

Did you *not* want mail order?

I'm sure my cards were under a tenner.

I suggested Kall Kwik or Prontaprint earlier in the thread.

I use CardFila.com to collect all business cards on iPhone because it is so easy to collect, find and use any contact at any time.
You can access the contacts everywhere without Internet connection by using CardFila for Mobile (iPhone or Android phones). I also can do this on Android, computer, laptop. As i know, they will award 100 free coins for accounts registered within Nov 2012! If you like, you can try it on http://cardfila.com/

Presumably, you work for Cardfila?

I hope it works better than your newsgroup posting ability, which appears to
have hiccups.
